Bob Johnson
My Story
Hi, my name is Bob Johnson. When I was 5 years old, I was diagnosed with a brain tumor,
Medulloblastoma. Fortunately, because of the brave boys and girls who went before me, there is
a solid protocol for this cancer. So, after radiation, chemotherapy and several surgeries later
and care from an amazing team at Midwest Children’s Brain Tumor Center at Advocate Aurora,
I am now a 26-year-old, rather medically boring, college graduate!
The cancer and treatments took their toll. I cannot read or write, but despite that I went to Loras
College in Dubuque Iowa. I chose Loras College because it has a strong learning disability
center to help me with the accommodations I needed to thrive. A founding member of the LEAF
organization on campus, I found my passion in ‘saving the environment’. I graduated with a BA
in Sustainability. Now I currently work at Moose & Me Bakery and a greenhouse, We Grow
Dreams, and advocate for environmental changes in the community I live in through a grass-
roots activism group, GreenerGrove.
